Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) is a non-profit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organisation, started by Marshall Saunders in the United States.
Marshall worked as a campaigner for the hunger issues lobby, RESULTS. But he realised that world hunger could not be solved without first tackling climate change, the biggest threat to our liveable world.
He soon realized that anything individuals could do was totally swamped by public policy, by what the government did or didn’t do. To influence policy, people need the training he’d found so effective in Results.
In 2007, he founded Citizens Climate Lobby based on the Results model. Within ten years, US members numbered over 92,000 and had written tens of thousands of letters to their Congressmen; in 2017 alone they’d had 1,615 meetings with Congressional offices, written 106 editorials, and been instrumental in recruiting 66 Congressmen to the Climate Solutions Caucus – including 33 Republicans.
There are now CCL groups in 40 countries, including the UK network, established in 2015.
